American Cancer Society Subcommittee
In 2022, there will be an estimated 1,918,030 new cancer cases in the U.S. That’s 4 new cases every minute. Chances are, you or someone you know has been affected by cancer. The good new is, the mortality rate has decreased 32% since 1991. This is largely due to general awareness, research and treatment centers.
Our committee is dedicated to ensuring that we support the continued awareness and support for cancer research. Whether through a walk, a bake sale, or 50/50 raffle, we are working to support cancer research and remind people that cancer is preventable and detectable. This year, we will be participating in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and the Relay for Life walk as well as fundraisers to help support those events.
Healthcare professionals and scientists are learning more about cancer every day. Our efforts can help support them in doing that. Help us get to a world without cancer.

Environmental Impact Subcommittee
Did you know…
- The average office worker generates about 2 pounds of paper waste every day?
- Around 27,000 trees are cut down each day?
- The US burns 10,000 gallons of gasoline per second?
- If you walk a mile along an average US highway, you will see an average of about 1,457 pieces of litter?
- Americans throw away 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour?
More and more companies across a variety of industries are committing to reducing their impact on the environment. By its nature, our industry is often at the center of attention of any discussion involving the potentially negative impact we have on our surroundings. Because of our role, it is important that we take this seriously and find ways to counteract the negatives with ways we can have a POSITIVE impact instead.
In June of this year, the American Trucking Association announced the formation of a new Climate and Clean Energy Advisory Committee to help shape the association’s policies and actions on a number of key environmental issues.
While the leaders of our industry focus on macro changes that will help ease our environmental impact, what can we do as one company or even as individuals to have a positive impact on our environment and our future?
As part of the NAPA Cares Committee, we have formed a sub-committee focused on the idea that we can all contribute to reducing our overall carbon footprint. Over the next year, the Environmental Impact committee will introduce several projects and initiatives that will give the NAPA family a chance to make a difference. A few of the areas we will be focusing on include:
- Recycling
- Roadway pollution
- Increased forestation
- Waste reduction
We will share more about these in the coming months. In addition, we want to hear more from YOU! We know the NAPA team has ideas and suggestions that will help us achieve our goals. Let’s hear them! Any ideas you have for reducing our carbon footprint- either as a company or as individuals, send them to Tracey Smeltzer. We will include them in future discussions and planning. Bonus: If we use your idea, you may be eligible for a NAPA prize!
It’s good to be green!
Military/Veteran Subcommittee
Active Duty Military and Veterans are a point of pride for our country. Unfortunately, many of them struggle after serving our country. Veterans often have expensive medical bills, housing issues, and difficulties finding jobs and taking care of their families.
In this industry, we work with many Veterans so it’s important to us that we support them. Our committee is dedicated to giving back to those brave men and women who fought for us. With so many opportunities to help, we want to find the areas that will make the biggest impact on individuals and their families that need it the most.
We hope you join us in helping make Veterans’ lives better.
